FRONT PAGE – BREXIT, CLINTON/TRUMP, CIA-FBI, ORLANDO MASSACRE, DAESH ATTACKS

World Media – Synthesis Based on the Most Noteworthy Entries from 15 June 2016 to 30 June 2016

The obvious dominant topic of the second half of the month of June 2016 is the Brexit vote in favor of leaving the European Union. Prime Minister David Cameron had accepted a referendum on the subject to silence and hold on to the Conservative’s right-wingers, obviously believing the vote would maintain the UK in the EU. But Cameron lost his bet, as did the British bookmakers, and now Europe is rushing ahead to instate the political decisions the British have blocked for several decades. In short, if Britain ever goes back to Europe, it will be on what the Brits have always considered the worst terms possible, but that’s what comes when you bet in politics.

In US politics, the Trump aurora seems to be wearing off and the rather boring but solid Clinton political establishment seems to be progressing toward the US presidency, while the “hung” Supreme Court is deciding against certain right-wing cases, including anti-abortion laws. But another massacre with an assault weapon and more gun deaths still haven’t pushed the GOP-dominated Congress to pass any new gun laws, as cops involved in the deaths of unarmed black men continue to go free. The FBI and the CIA have kept themselves in the news with torture and surveillance.

Abroad, there hasn’t been that much change as international pressure on the right-wing Israeli government increases, NATO continues its “saber-rattling” against Russia, and allies progress against Daesh in the Middle East, despite more bloody jihadist attacks. In Africa, there will be anal exams for gay suspects, and rioters rampage in South Africa as President Zuma, who ransacked the national treasury for $510,000 for his own house, will have to pay it back. The international isolation of the jihadist establishment in Pakistan is considered to be “Its Own Fault”, while the international community celebrates the FARC-Colombia deal and Puerto Rico passes under colonial Washington rule and China and the US fight it out diplomatically, but almost militarily, in the South China Sea.
